CR Communities, S.A. is a land development company based in San Ramón.  The company specializes in developing high quality, value-priced ocean-view communities for those looking to live or invest in Costa Rica.  All communities have convenient access to shopping, entertainment and services.  The company’s current projects include “Pacific Hills at Magallanes,” an 18-lot ocean-view residential project and “Pacific Views at Magallanes,” a 12-lot ocean- and mountain-view development, both located within 5 minutes from downtown San Ramón  The company’s projects are not gated communities but residential projects that allow its clients to live in a beautiful area with safety and comfort.  The company pays particular attention to environmental issues, preventing undue harm to plant and animal life.  The company gives generously to the communities in which it operates.  It is currently contributing to the building of Costa Rica’s third national school of art and music which will be located near its current projects.  The officers of CR Communities also own “Boomers in Costa Rica Tours,” the country’s leading retirement and real estate tour.

Community Involvement:

When CR Communities was founded its officers committed to the company’s investors that a priority would be to embrace and implement progressive corporate social responsibility principles and practices.  The company would therefore engage in the dual purpose of being a profit-making entity as well as an engine for positive change in the areas in which it operated.

As part of its charter, CR Communities aggressively supports the greater San Ramon area through donations that help improve the lives of people where the company operates.  It sets aside of portion of profits to assist organizations in a wide range of areas.  It targets the following activities:

Inauguration of New Classrooms in Magallanes, San Ramon

CR Communities was asked by local school officials in San Ramon to fund the building of two additional classrooms in the Magallanes area, a short drive from the company's residential developments, Pacific Hills and Pacific Views.  Below are photographs from the inauguration of this new facility, held on August, 7, 2009, and attended by government officials, school administrators, students, teachers, and friends.  These classrooms will provide more space for teaching and music instruction.  The facility will also be used as a community center.  CR Communities is proud to have fulfilled this important need for the school system.

Education

Developing countries like Costa Rica will only progress through a strong educational system that helps its students not only receive the tools to be successful in their own communities but also in an increasingly connected world.  As such, Costa Rica relies primarily on foreign tourists and international trade for the bulk of its GDP.  The work of CR Communities on educational matters is geared to helping students be better prepared to compete not only here but with people from around the world.

To date, the company has made a number of donations directly to schools or in support of the greater San Ramon educational system.  This work includes donating a laptop computer for use by a teacher and students at a primary school in the Magallanes section of San Ramon.  The company also donated two new classrooms so that students could have a more comfortable learning environment. The new building will also be used as a local community center.

The company provided legal services in the formation of the non-profit organization, “Adopting Escuelas” (schools), a program in which expats work side-by-side with teachers and students in numerous schools throughout the San Ramon area.  The company also paid for the shipping of several computers from the United States to San Ramon.

Over the years, the company has donated a variety of school supplies that are much needed by teachers and students.

Sports

Recently, the company donated new uniforms to a local soccer team and plans on similar contributions in the near future.

Community Development

The needs of local communities are significant.  In many cases, municipalities do not have the money to provide some of the basic services that people in the developed world take for granted.  CR Communities’ role in working with local governments and specific neighborhoods is to help build partnerships between business, government, and residents to find unique ways to meet the every day needs of the local population.

For example, CR Communities is in the process of donating a well to the municipal water authority in Magallanes so that plentiful water is available to long-time residents, and that as the area grows, people feel that their water needs will be met for the indefinite future.

The company supports environmental protection in all of its projects and in the surrounding areas. The company’s two newest projects are on organic soil. Both communities will employ local farmers to cultivate various areas to provide organic produce to residents and nearby neighborhoods. Means of maintenance in its other projects, Pacific Views and Pacific Hills, are being converted from chemical-induced to organic methods.
